Obesity is on the increase in most countries. There are two main causes for this trend: greater access to food and a sedentary lifestyle. Therefore, it is thought that physical exercise is a useful way of addressing excess weight. However, do we know which types and amount of physical exercise are most effective in weight loss? In other words, which type of exercise should we do, how and how often? There are no miracle ways of losing excess weight but we can answer this question thanks to the experimental data we now know. On the other hand, it must be mentioned that there is a paradox related to obesity, as overweight people sometimes have a health advantage.
